Family Participation Under the Law
The intent and purpose of the law is to create a system of care that is child centered, family focused and community based. Families play an active role in developing all aspects of the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
- Families are consulted each step of the way during assessments, planning and implementation of the plan.
- Families share their knowledge to help teams understand what is the best way to meet their needs.
- Each Community Policy and Management Team (CPMT) and each Family Assessment and Planning Team (FAPT) is required to have a member who is a parent and who brings the parent and family perspective to the team.
- Every service plan developed by the Family Assessment and Planning Team (FAPT) must have the approval of the parent(s) before it is carried out, unless a court of law orders the services.
