Hampton school officials want more parents involved in the schools and with their children.

The 17th Annual National Parent Involvement Day is Thursday, November 19,
2009! There does not need to be a Resolution, Proclamation or Call to Action
for us, the parents, to take small steps to show our support and interest in
our kids. It can be paying attention to and asking questions about their
schoolwork, volunteering at school for just an hour...simple acts that show
our kids how important learning and education are for a successful life! See
below what one area in Virginia is doing.
HAMPTON, VIRGINIA, WVEC-TV -- Hampton school officials want more parents
involved in the schools and with their children.

November 19, 2009, is National Parent Involvement Day, so on that day,
Hampton City School and Parent-Teacher Associations will host events to let
parents know what's going on and suggest ways to fit schools in their busy
schedules. For example, they recommend volunteering during classes or
setting aside time in the evenings to have dinner with their kids or help
with homework. Organizers hope the one-day focus will help parents realize the importance of spending quality time with their children each day.

They believe it will benefit the child, the parent, the school and the
community. The program is a product of Project Appleseed, the national campaign for public school improvement.
