Mexican Embassy Holds Health Fair

Focus on Mexican-American Families' Wellness
Mar 03, 2010
In February 2010, the Mexican Embassy sponsored a health awareness fair. Among the guest attendees were Rosalia Fajardo, PEATC's Director of Outreach, Daniel Garduno and German Valvuena.

The purpose of the health awareness fair was to get Mexican-Americans to focus on improving their overall health and education. According to the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, Mexican-Americans in Virginia rank below the median measure of other Virginians in areas of education, household income, poverty while ranking higher in use of publicly-funded health services and labor force participation.

Participants also received information about vaccines, asthma, tuberculosis prenatal care, diabetes, and other conditions pertaining to the health and wellness of children, adults and families. Preventive care was a key focus among all the information.
