Local Colors, the annual event celebrating the vast diversity of the Roanoke Valley, is held each year in Elmwood Park in downtown Roanoke. This year over 90 countries were represented with parents and children proudly marching, wearing traditional costumes and carrying their country’s flags in the opening ceremony.

For the first time ever, PEATC had a booth highlighting our outreach for parents. The booth was visited by many people through the course of the day. Folks from Mexico, India, Egypt and Columbia were just a few that stopped by to talk and look at the materials offered for their benefit. Many educators from the Roanoke area also stopped by to see the materials and to talk with us about our role in parental involvement.

To the sounds of music from Africa to Brazil we enjoyed the day and were glad to have the opportunity to share with this community PEATC’s role in the development of parents in the education of their children. We look forward to participating in this fun event next year. Hasta el proximo año, (see you next year)!
